Life Journey Work

Life journey work explores children’s historic experiences and helps them develop a more cohesive narrative of their past. The child's journey into care is examined from reviewing case notes. This helps to identify gaps in information and to gain an insight into the child's early trauma experiences. This will prevent the child holding a fragmented view of their past experiences and gives them an opportunity to explore the fear and trauma they might have never had the chance to express or articulate.

The parents/carers will be able to witness the unfolding of the narrative; creating a shared history between them. This information is then more robustly embedded into the child's sense of identity which will, in turn, assist in empowering them. This is an important part of the process as it ensures that the child's feelings and intimate thoughts are heard and respected. It also helps the child to make sense of how their trauma has impacted them.
